We have made it through our first month as new parents! We have fallen in love with Elijah more and more each day. I am amazed at how this sweet little boy grew inside of me for nine months and is now here with us. I am even further amazed at how much I can love another person who I have just met.
Eli has been doing really well. He eats about every three hours, has some time awake, and then sleeps. I have nothing to compare it to, but I couldn't ask for much more. Eli loves to sleep, go on walks or ride in the car, nap with daddy, and take baths. We've ventured out a few times, and we always get comments as to how much hair he has. We haven't quite mastered how to best style his hair and sometimes it looks a bit disheveled.
In addition to Eli's beautiful hair, we love his "stretchy" face when he is trying to wake up, seeing him smile in his sleep, and snuggling with him right before he falls asleep. I can't wait to see what the next few months bring as Eli grows and learns new things everyday. I have no doubt that we will continue to fall in love with him more and more!
Eli has been learning new things everyday, but so have Chris and I. Here are a few things I have learned in the past month:
- I have no trouble sleeping when I am tired enough.
- It is amazing the amount of energy that God provides just when I think I have nothing left.
- Although being up in the middle of the night is really hard sometimes, it is all worth it when I see Eli's sweet face.
- It is incredibly important to change diapers quickly.
- Poop can project across a room.
- Chris is an amazing father and husband. He is so encouraging to me and loves his son so much. I love watching them together.
Chris and I are so thankful that God chose to bless us with this sweet little boy. I feel so honored that he chose us to help Eli grow into the man God intended him to be. It's quite daunting thinking of how much influence we will have on his life; however, it makes me want to be the best possible mom to him.
We pray each night for Eli. We pray that God will provide Chris and I with the wisdom and patience needed to raise a little boy, especially one that seeks to know Jesus. We pray that Eli will one day choose to know Jesus and seek to be more like him. We look forward to the time we have with Eli and can't wait to see what month two will bring!
